How We Can Help
We offer daily analysis of thyroxine (T4), cortisol, and canine thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and in addition, the analysis of phenobarbital and potassium bromide, on tuesdays and fridays. The steroid assays (progesterone, testosterone and estradiol) are run as needed. BioPRYN (Pregnancy Specific Protein B) analyses for pregnancy diagnosis in bovine, ovine, caprine and bison samples are conducted weekly on Thursday afternoons, with results available the next day afternoon. Gonadotropin assays (LH, FSH) are available for some species, and many other hormones can be run by request for large numbers of research samples. Either serum or plasma is suitable for steroid analysis (serum is preferred). Analyses of these hormones and drugs are possible at reduced rates for large numbers of samples. Samples for any of these analyses should be submitted through the PDS Receiving Office, and instructions for sample collection can be found in the PDS Test and Service Guide. The PDS submission form may be used for sample submission, or a sheet providing the clinic number, veterinarian’s name, brief history and analysis are required. The charges are listed in the PDS fee guide, showing the volume discounts available. Please contact Susan Cook if you have any questions regarding our services.
Immulite Based Assays
We measure a large number of analytes from diagnostic and research samples using the Siemens Immunlite Immunoassay system. A complete list of Immulite based assays feasible can be found at the Siemens website
Commercial and custom in-house assays are available for research and diagnostic samples.
Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent assays (ELISA)
If you prefer to use an ELISA to measure samples, and such assays are commercially available, we will be able to help. We do not offer custom ELISA development.
Tritium based assays
This core facility is capable of completing tritium based assays, and have some in-house assays to measure steroid hormones (e.g. tritium labeled estradiol assay).
We employ top quality lab approaches and data analyses methods, and set high standards for quality control. Because of this approach, we meet and/or exceed the quality control criteria specified in assay protocols, require by our clients.
Budgeting for assays
Our team can help you with assay selection, and provide you with quotes and options for budgets, to be included with grant applications and project proposals.
We provide hands on training in all types of assays. If you are interested in training a student or staff, please contact Susan Cook.
Prices always depend on the type of assay, number of samples submitted at a time, and the nature of involvement of our staff in completing the assays. Please contact Susan Cook to request a custom quote.
